William E. Brown
William H. Brown, Realtor was formed in Oakland over 50 years ago by my father. After graduating from the University of Santa Clara, I started the Investment Properties division of our company. Since 1978 my sole brokerage focus has been the sale of existing apartment buildings, primarily in the Bay Area.
My father retired from the business over thirty-two years ago. Today, William H. Brown, Realtor exclusively handles apartment transactions for both institutional and private capital investors. I have been fortunate enough to consistently be one of the top apartment brokers in the East Bay over the course of my career.
In addition to my brokerage business, I have been active in organized real estate. I was president of the Oakland Board of Realtors in 1984. At the state level I am currently on the Board of Directors of the California Association of Realtors. I have had numerous committee chairmanships at CAR, including chairman of the Legislative Committee, which promotes pro-real estate legislation in the California State Senate and Assembly. I also have been chairman of CAR's Commercial and Investment Forum. In June of 2006, I was elected President-Elect of the California Association of Realtors for 2007, and President of CAR in 2008. I look forward to being on the leadership team that represents the largest trade association in California.
At the national level, I am a member of the Board of Directors of the National Association of Realtors, and have chaired both their Commercial Finance Subcommittee and the Multi-Family Housing Committee. In 2004, I was chairman of NAR's Realtor Political Action Committee. With $13 million spent in the 2004 election cycle, RPAC is the largest PAC in the nation. It helps elect United States Congressional and Senatorial candidates who positively support the issues of NAR. In 2006 I served on NAR's Executive Committee and the enlarged Leadership Team as a Liaison to the State and Political Issues Group.
Locally, I was chosen to be the chairman of the successful campaigns to fight two of the four onerous rent control measures that were put on the Oakland ballot in the early 1980s: No on E and No on EE. Additionally, I was selected by Mayor Lionel Wilson to serve as the first landlord representative on the City of Oakland's Residential Rent Arbitration Board.
Market knowledge is the key to success in investment brokerage. Many deals are done without being formally listed or advertised. I am well connected to the apartment owners who under the right terms and conditions can become sellers, and also to the sources of investment capital looking for acquisitions. My ability to match credible buyers with willing sellers has resulted in a very high percentage of deals that progress from contract ratification to closed escrows.
My commitment to my clients is one of honesty and professional service. I am 100% involved with the client in every step of the real estate transaction. After a contract is successfully negotiated, I help the client obtain financing and I assist with due diligence.
Because of this, most of my business is repeat business from satisfied buyers and sellers. Client references can be provided to you upon request.
